If you were Tally, would you ask the Warden to make you pretty?
Yes, I would ask the Warden to make me pretty because I would do it to make David forgive me, and so that if the cure worked on me then it would work on Shay and we could be best friends again.

Tally has finally come clean. Do you think she will regret it? Do you think David will change his mind about her?
I think that she won't regret it because she won't feel guilty anymore, she will feel like she has done the right thing and not kept anything from anybody.
I think that if David really loved her that he will understand, and if he doesn't understand then he won't be the one for Tally then.

Should Maddy have forced Shay to take the "cure?" Why or why not?
She shouldn't have forced Shay to take the "cure," she should have asked her if she wanted the cure before she just tried to talk Shay into taking the "cure."

I would get the cure because I would want to be myself again and not be crazy and not know what I'm talking about, so that's why I would get the cure.

Respond to the following quote from the chapter... what does it mean to you?
"Tally thought of the lesians on Shay's brain, the tiny cancers or wounds or whatever they are that she didn't even know she had. They were in there somewhere changing her friend's thougts, warping her feelings, gnawing at the roots of who she was."
I think that this quote means that Shay has been changed forever into a Pretty, and might not be herself again. Tally wanted the Ugly Shay back, the one who was mad at her, and also her best friend other than David.

Gve a chronological list of important events inthe chapter. What's the kicker at the end of the chapter?
1. Tally and David knock Dr. Cable out
2. They rescue the Smokies from Special Circumstanses
3. They escape through the roof on hoverboards, and try to get away
The Kicker- David finds out that his father is dead.

Is this quote a play on words, or does it have a deeper meaning to the story? "Radiology. Neurology. Magnetic Imaging," she read softly. "Operating Theater Two."
I think that it has a deeper meaning to the story because I think that they are explaining that those are the torture rooms, where they perform the operation.

In this chapter a few Uglies go to New Pretty Town to do a "trick."
They make the words "THE SMOKE LIVES" with sparklers. If you had ONE chance to post a message important to you, what would it be and why?
I would put "Always give it your all no matter what" because you have to always give it your best to be the best that you can be.

The Uglies they met in this chapter are similar to Tally at the beginning of the book. When you compare her to these Uglies, how has Tally changed and what has made her change?
She has gotten more mature, and I think that David has made Tally more mature because he is older, and wiser.

Do you think Tally's plan will work? David wants to save his parents, but what's driving Tally? Do you think she is crazy , or are her feelings valid?
No, I don't thnk Tally's plan will work because they will get to close to the ground and the alarm will sound and they will get caught.
I think that what is driving Tally is that she wants "The Smoke to Live."
I think that she is a little crazy because she is still thinking about what she did to the Smoke and what happened to her friends.

How do David & Tally describe the Rusties? Is it accurate?
They describe them as dumb, stupid, and dangerous people, they make us sound so horrible.
No it isn't accurate because not everybody is all stupid, dumb, or dangerous, just some people out there are like that.
What are weaknesses of OUR society?
We give into things to early before we even know what they are about.
Also we are weak at saying no to something that could affect the human economy in our lifestyle's today as human beings.
What are weaknesses of THEIR society?
They don't protect themselves very much as far as protecting yourself as an individual.
Also, they have to much high-tech stuff and equipment.

Find information and a picture about a time we weren't prepared. (i.e. a natural disaster or attack). Post information and cite it.
8:46 AM: Flight 11 crashes into the WTC (World Trade Center) north tower.
8:46:40: Flight 11 crashes at roughly 490 mph (790 km/h) into the north side of the north tower of the World Trade Center, between floors 94 and 98. The aircraft enters the tower mostly intact. It plows to the building core, severing all three gypsum-encased stairwells, dragging combustibles with it. A massive shock wave travels down to the ground and up again. The combustibles and the remnants of the aircraft are ignited by the burning fuel. Since the building lacks a traditional full cage frame and depends almost entirely on the strength of a narrow structural core running up the center, the fire at the center of the impact zone is in a position to compromise the integrity of all internal columns. Two home video cameras are known to have recorded the impact. People below the severed stairwells in the north tower start to evacuate; no-one above the impact zone is able to do so.
8:46 to 10:29: At least 100 people (some accounts say as many as 250), primarily in the north tower, trapped by fire and smoke in the upper floors, jump to their deaths. There is some evidence that large central portions of the floor near the impact zone in the north tower collapsed soon after the plane hit, perhaps convincing some people that total collapse was imminent. One person at street level, firefighter Daniel Thomas Suhr, is hit by a jumper and dies. No form of airborne evacuation is attempted as smoke is too dense for a successful landing on the roof of either tower.
9:03 AM: Flight 175 crashes into the south WTC tower.
9:03:13: Flight 175 crashes at about 590 mph (950 km/h) into the south side of the south tower, banked between floors 78 and 84. By this time, several media organizations are covering the first plane crash; millions see the impact live. Parts of the plane leave the building at its east and north sides, falling to the ground six blocks away. A massive evacuation begins in the south tower below its impact zone. One of the stairwells in the south tower remains unblocked, but filled with smoke. This led many people to mistakenly go upwards towards the roof for a rooftop rescue that never came. CNN's headline now reads 'Second plane crashes into World Trade Center'.
9:59 AM: The south tower of the World Trade Center collapses.
9:59:04: The south tower of the World Trade Center collapses, viewed and heard by a vast television and radio audience. It had stood for 56 minutes 10 seconds since the impact by Flight 175. As the roar of the collapse goes silent, tremendous gray-white clouds of pulverized concrete and gypsum rush through the streets. Most observers think a new explosion or impact has produced smoke and debris that now obscures the south tower. When the wind finally clears the immediate space, it is plain to see that there is no tower.
10:28 AM: The World Trade Center north tower collapses.
10:28:31: The north tower of the World Trade Center collapses from the top down, as if being peeled apart. Probably due to the destruction of the gypsum-encased stairwells on the impact floors (most skyscraper stairwells are encased in reinforced concrete), no one above the impact zone in the north tower survives. The Marriott Hotel, located at the base of the two towers, is also destroyed. The second collapse is also viewed live on television and heard on radio.
The north tower, 1 WTC, stood for 102 minutes 5 seconds after impact. The south tower, 2 WTC, collapsed about 56 minutes later.

Describe the irony in Tally's "victory" over Dr. Cable. What was lost in the process?
Tally was happy that she had won something or gotten something that Dr. Cable hadn't gotten from Tally, or hadn't killed yet.
Tally's friends were lost in the process of the attack. They were captured, then put into a cage and eventually killed.

Explain what self perservation means to you. Is it the most important thing? Would you lie because of it?
I think that self perservation means to take care of yourself and not let anything happen to yourself. I also think that it is bringing yourself up when you are down.
I don't think that it is the most important thing to me because I mean you have to have self perserverance, it's only human that you do, but I just don't think that it is the most important thing to me as an individual.
No I wouldn't lie because of it. I would never lie, so therefore I wouldn't lie about it.

Tally had changed her mind about the Smoke and the operation, but what will she do about all that now? Whose side is she on?
She won't do anything about the operation and the Smoke. I think that Tally is on the Smokies side because she fought for them and didn't mean for any harm to come of the Smokies. She thought that she had destroyed the pendant, but really she just set it off.

Yes, I think that this is the climax of the book because now the Specials have arrived and are dangerous to the Smokies. Also, it tells you that Tally tries to escape the Smoke and that there is a battle going on in the Smoke. Then, Tally gets caught and gets thrown into the Rabbit Pen.

Respond to the following quote, what does it mean to you/ to the story? "Becoming pretty doesn't just change the way you look... it changes the way you think."
I think that it does because the doctors want you to know only the great part of life, not the boring Ugly you used to be.
How would you want to change mentally and physically if you were a pretty? (physically and mentally)
I wouldn't want to change, but if I had to I would change how smart I am to make me even smarter. I would also change the way my brain processes information.

Does it require bravery to meet David's parents, why or why not?
No because if Tally trusts David you should trust him enough to go and meet his parents.
Examples of:

Personification-"...choking the life out of other plants, out of the soil itself, selfish and unstoppable."
Simile-"Like a walking poison, she killed everything."

I think that Shay does because Tally is an infiltraitor and doesn't have a right to be in the Smoke.
Tally received a gift from David in the chapter that is special. Have you ever received something that made others jealous as this gift did? Did your gift have a meaning behind it as Tally's had?

Why would it have been easier for Tally to activate the pendant when she got to the Smoke? Explain.
I think that it would have been easier because now that she has figured out how many lives are at steak she won't activate now that she has figured out that. If Davids parents were doctors, why do you think they ran away? Support your answer with texual evidence.
I think that they ran away because they were tired of being doctors and doing all of those operations. Also, I think that they did because they got tired of living in the city and when they heard about the Smoke they headed straight there.
"How old were they when they ran away? Old enough. They weren't Uglies anymore. I think it's called being a middle pretty?"

What do you think about Shay's description of a model?
I think that for the books sake that Shay is right being a Pretty in some place thats got lots of Uglies is like your job to be Pretty.
Shay and Tally have a skewed view of our time, but what have they got right?
Well I think that they're completely wrong about how its obskewred that girls starve themselves. Girls like to do that in our time to fit in and not be fat and look extremely ugly. So, I think that Shay and Tally are wrong about how girls are trying to get skinnier. They try to fit into this world, that's why they do that. That's why I think that Shay and Tally are wrong.
